A Scottish Policeman has been named Wildlife Law Enforcer of the Year by environmental charity, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
Police Constable Charles Everitt of Lothian and Borders Police has worked in wildlife law enforcement for almost eight years. PC Everitt investigated 27 wildlife cases last year and has helped to protect peregrine falcon chicks and hares.
He recently established a community peregrine-watch on a site near Edinburgh that is targeted by chick thieves, and this led to the first hatching of the birds in 15 years. He has also investigated deer poaching, hare coursing and unlicensed zoo animals.
As part of an international operation, which seized unlawful goods worth 10 million euros, he led inspections at Scottish traditional medicine shops for products containing protected species.
Charles is an old friend of OneKind and we want to congratulate him on this prestigious award.
